Stormers coach, Allister Coetzee, has made 5 changes to his team to take on the Brumbies this weekend. Peter Grant makes his return to the starting 15 to claim his 93rd cap.
The team sees the return of Frans Malherbe and Michael Rhodes to the pack while Northern Hemisphere bench warming wing, Sailosi Tagicakibau, gets his first start. Juan de Jongh sits on the bench and Peter Grant start, whilst Gio Aplon is moved to fullback to cover for the once again injured Jaco Taute.

Stormers needs a massive performance for the loose trio and the 10-13 combination to attack with some meaning for a change. Hope Grant can bring this to the side
Concerned about Rhodes playing, he has a tendency to give away costly and ill timed penalties or get carded unnecessary.
Jackson is IMO the best of the SR referees so far, but I doubt he will tolerate Rhodes either if he continues the way he has.
Contracting Taute has been a big flop, maybe the guy is just bad luck, but for the amount he has been paid he certainly hasn’t delivered anything in return.
Agree on Rhodes here, but the lack of remaining locks do not leave a lot to choose from

Actually this is not a bad team, I thought it would look a lot worse.
The starting 15 is pretty decent, given the overall availability. I would play Botha at 5 and Rhodes at 4 but I think that has something to do with who is calling the lineouts.
Grant may make a difference with ball in hand but his tactical kicking as everyone knows has let him down in the past. It’s a weakness that I know he is working on and last year saw an improvement in that area (when he played).
Demitri, Kolisi, Juan De Jongh on the bench is quite impressive.
So basically i am waiting to see if they can improve on the last 2 weeks performances.
We must remember that we played 2 of the top teams in the comp and home, NO ONE from SA have beaten the Crusaders at home in recent (and not so recent) times and we should have taken that one. Against the Chiefs we were in it until 10 minutes from the end, in spite of a try that should not have been given, so in spite of everyone talking the Stormers down I am telling you that they are still very much in it.
I wouldn’t count them out at all.

I have never understood why who calls the lineouts determine the number on your jersey, why cant number 7 call the lineout? why cant number 4? as long as they are possible jumpers.
In other words, you expect both locks to be strong ball carriers, Clean out at the rucks, scrum impressively, in fact this is the only place where I think it might matter on which side you scrum, but even then it does not matter if you are number 4 or 5.
If the number on your jersey determines who calls the lineouts, we might as well let the kicker wear a “k” on his jersey and the captain a “c”.

In the “good old days”, Leicester Rugby Club didn’t have numbers, but letters on thier jerseys.
In fact even today the jerseys still have the letter on (I think) the collar.

What is wrong with the scrummie calling,
Maybe I am just stupid about this, if you have 2 locks that both have good ball skills, ball carriers, lineout jumpers, they both tackle, both attend to rucks, (maybe not at the same time) that is kind of what I would expect from all our forwards then who and what why does 4 and 5 matter I think Spies was also calling line outs for the bulls last year. Ideal would be if you had two locks, on predominantly left shoulder and one predominantly right shoulder.

In a perfect world id like 2 enforcers at lock, hell what would be wrong with have at least 4 enforcers in the forwards, why would it be limited to number 4 lock?
Wonder what would a Eben and Bakies (enforcers) be like at lock and two fetchers for flanks in one team

The Brumbies aren’t that good, the Stormers aren’t that bad either
The Stormers bench is a detrimental factor for the ‘investor’; as anticipated, the Stormers conceded 2 walk over tries in last few minutes after had upset the Chiefs by scoring 2 garbage time tries of their own, but then the Brumbies aren’t as good as the Chiefs
Rhodes will make their pack a little better and Grant will plug the channel in the middle, Like I said last week, it’s only the last 25 minutes that look bleak with Kolisi, Carr and JdJ all on the field!

Another factor is that Joubert will not be there to support the Stormers in their times of a need 😉
The Bulls will have a NZ referee too vs the Sharks although they don’t seemed to rely much on scoundrels to win it for them this season.
Stuart Berry will have to punish the Lions more often after the Reds had been robbed last week by another SARU referee; the ARU will retaliate for sure if otherwise.
