Rugby-Talk LogoPlayers in this competition had to predict how many games each team will lose and draw during the regular season. No casualties to report. Everyone is still alive in our game.

The participants who showed little faith in the Lions are now kept in the game by their losing streak of two games. One more win will take out three players.  Timothy Bornman, Cheetah4eva and OzzieKiwi. They will drop out if the Lions take the scalp of New Zealand hopefuls the Blues. They cannot afford another win by the Lions, having predicted 14 losses for the Lions.

Loosehead joins them because he predicted that the Stormers will lose just two games. They lost their second by a single point and they face the rampant Chiefs in the next round. Only a very brave person would bet on the Stormers to win. So maybe our first casualty will be Loosehead.

Predicting how many games each of the South African Conference franchises will lose, is the object of this game. After 4 Rounds of Super Rugby in 2014 we still have no casualties.

Each franchise plays 16 games in the regular season, 8 against fellow South African Conference sides (home and away) and 8 against the sides in the other 2 Conferences.

Although the rules stay the same, we will use this first ever competition to develop and fine tune a future competition which will keep early drop-outs interested for longer. If you have any suggestions please post it in the comments section of this article.

I’m throwing a major dummy pass.

  • 2

Can’t believe I’m still alive, not going very well in SR predictions so far

We had an outage at my place this morning and my PC, laptop,
TV, DVD, iPad & my new surround sound music system were all shut down.
Then I discovered that my iPhone battery was flat and to top it off it was raining
outside, so I couldn’t play golf.

I went into the kitchen to make coffee and then I remembered that this also
needs power, so I talked with Mrs cane for a few hours.

She seems like a nice person.

    This is actually,
quite a good concept. (The Competition).
More tricky than a Jappie Ref with a new whistle.

  • 6

    5 @ cane:
Any ref’ with a whistle is fine. It’s when they try thinking that the problems occur!

  • 7

    @ Snoek:

I remember you from your Voldy days Snoek.

But I need reminding of your Provincialism.

At a guess I’m going to make you a Sharkie or Guppie, given your nik.

    @ Scrumdown:
It’s a tough old job Scrummy.
    And for the most part,
a thankless one. (from the fans anyway).

I have nothing but admiration for them for the most part.

  • 9

    8 @ cane:
Agree. Just sometimes they seem to have VERY PUBLIC brain farts that do nothing for their collective reputations.

“Some people believe (RUGBY)football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”

(Adapted from a famous quote by Bill Shankley)

  • 11

Also by Shankly, which in Rugby terms seems quite apt.

“If a player is not interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be.”

  • 12

    Another Shankly gem.

“The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they do not know the game.”
