StormersJaco TauteStormers fullback Jaco Taute’s knee is giving him problems again as they prepare to face Boland in a pre-season friendly in Wellington on Saturday.

Sport24

Taute made his return to action against the Kings last week after being sidelined since last April with a serious knee injury.

He came through last week’s game in Port Elizabeth unscathed but now appears to have injured his knee again.

The Stormers management will give him time “until Saturday” to prove his fitness for the Boland match.

Losing Taute will be a significant blow to the Stormers’ backline stocks, as they have already lost Cheslin Kolbe and Juan de Jongh with knee injuries, and it is a well known fact that the Capetonians are not happy with their depth in the backline, especially at wing.

Saturday’s clash at the Boland Stadium kicks off at 17:00, 30 minutes later as initially scheduled due to sweltering heat expected.

The Stormers start their Super Rugby campaign away to the Lions on Saturday 22 February.

    Tim Swiel anyone?

Well feel for Taute he has become injury prone. Will be a loss for Stormers seeing Kolbe is out injured and Swiel is now with the Sharks. Aplon will have to go to Fullback no doubt.

    1 @ MacroBull:

Swiel is in the Sharks Super Rugby squad. Stormers must be mad they let him go. Our gain. I do hope Jake gives him a try out at Fullback at some stage he is a exciting player but we have full cover at flyhalf with Lambie and Fred.

    @ Puma:
I know Swiel is at the Sharks.

I don’t know, Taute is just not a moneyball type of player, the returns will never equal the investment, money in the water.

Yip I have not really rated Taute how he became a Bok straight up have no clue. I think AC must be wishing he signed Swiel on. So I do hope the Sharks use him in the Super Rugby at some stage this year even at Fullback he is terrific. Though Jake seems to like Fisher there to cover Marais. I would have Swiel to cover Marais. Swiel can be as exciting as Willie le Roux at fullback.

I would always have Swiel on the bench for the Sharks as he covers flyhalf and fullback.

    @ Puma:
AC believes size will balance out his backlines lack of being able to pass the ball, I believe though he is moving forward as previously he tried balancing this out with forwards in the backline lol

I would not rate Swiel so highly yet, but hope he gets an opportunity to show what he has got, in a long season he probably will.

Never understood the hype about Taute, especially while at the Stomps.

    @ Loosehead:
As a Stormer I have never rated him either. Let’s hope he proves me wrong this year. I hope he stays fit so that we can get an idea of what he brings to Stormer rugby.

I don’t go for big backline players – skill is more important than having big guys running straight at the opposition. The smaller guys tend to run into gaps…

    Let the games begin…

Agree that I have no idea why Taute is rated this highly in his time at the Lions and now with the Stormers
No problem with Aplon at 15 but time to bring young Pat Howard into the mix

MB, I think it’s easier to find the meaning of life or to determine what makes women tick than it is to determine what goes through AC’s mind.

    @ Loosehead, Gummi and Gena
I’m with you guys on this, not sure what the hype is. Maybe they want to see if they can somehow recover some of the 2 mill they threw away on him last year?
