CheetahsNaka Drotske has announced the first team of the Toyota Cheetahs for the 2014 Super Rugby season!

This weekend sees the start of Super Rugby, but only in South Africa, with the New Zealand and Australian sides joining a week later.

Four of the 5 South African teams will be in action and the DHL Stormers side start their campaign with a bye weekend.

Toyota Cheetahs team: 15 Willie le Roux, 14 Cornal Hendricks, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Shaun Venter, 8 Philip van der Walt, 7 Lappies Labuschagné, 6 Boom Prinsloo, 5 Francois Uys, 4 Lood de Jager, 3 Coenie Ooshuizen, 2 Adriaan Strauss (Captain), 1 Caylib Oosthuizen
Replacements: 16 Ryno Barnes, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Maks van Dyk, 19 Ligtoring Landman, 20 Jean Cook, 21 Sarel Pretorius, 22 Elgar Watts, 23 Rayno Benjamin.

The squad is pretty much what was expected with newcomers Cornal Hendricks, Francois Venter and Shaun Venter in the starting 15. Jean Cook must be massively dissapointed not to be starting.

The great news is the return of a certain Johan Goosen, let’s hope that he remains injury free in 2014!

Naka bowing to pressure from the Green Brigade and picking Coenie at thight head?

Hmm. Reckon the Lions could battle against this team.

I find this rather disappointing. Coenie has not been a success at tighthead, and probably will not be.
We need a good strong start to the competition.
However the Lions are a very experienced team, with great depth, and excellent coaching team. I fully expect them to beat the Cheetahs by 9 points.

The greater good? He is a very average tighthead, but an excellent loosehead. Those wanting to play him at tighthead are doing him no service. Or maybe the replacements are unknown as you say.
    VRYSTAAAAAAT!

    @ Loosehead:
As I recall he had a very good game vs France.

Personally I think it is his general game that makes him an awesome player. And he might not to as well at scrum time, but it would not bring his value down by much. indeed if he goes well with caylib it might me better for the team.

Ja he did. However he just seems to be a better all round player when playing at Loosehead.
Just a point, please don’t come with facts and or things which make sense when debating things with me. All of my pronouncements are always 100% right and I will not entertain any logical arguments, facts or stats once my mind has been made up. Wink
