RaboDirect PRO12 balls 5/8/2011After a round of games played in dreadful conditions during which yet another fixture fell foul of the weather, players and spectators alike must be hoping that Round 14 of the Pro12 fares better.

The round kicks off with two games in the Irish capitals on Friday night, one in Belfast and one in Dublin, both featuring Welsh opposition.

rugby365

Reigning champions Leinster welcome Newport Gwent Dragons to the RDS, a ground where the Welshmen have never tasted victory, whilst Scarlets are the visitors to Ravenhill where Ulster will be defending their impressive home record.

There are three games on Saturday – table-topping Munster hosting Zebre for the first time at Musgrave Park, Cardiff Blues welcoming Glasgow Warriors to the Arms Park whilst Edinburgh travel to Connacht.

Thanks to the weather both of the Scottish teams now have two games in hand, and with Glasgow sitting in fifth place just outside the play-off zone, those outstanding points could become vital later in the season.

The round wraps up on Sunday afternoon when Ospreys host Italian outfit Treviso at the Liberty Stadium. Ospreys’ loss at Ulster last weekend saw the Irish province climb above them in the table, and if the Welsh side are to break the Irish stranglehold on the play-off zone, they need to garner every point available.

24 Responses to RaboDirect PRO12: Round 14 – Preview (Revised)

  • 1

The PRO12 match between Ulster and Scarlets has been postponed due to heavy rain which left the field flooded. The referee for the match called it off after inspection. No date has been finalized for the game to be played but it may take place on 14th March.

  • 2

That’s all the PRO12 teams for this weekend’s games now on the article folks

  • 3

Josh Strauss will captain Glasgow Warriors for the second game in a row. New signing Folau Niua (US international player) is on the bench for Glasgow as backline substitute while converted flanker Richie Vernon will start at outside centre alongside talented youngster Mark Bennett who I reckon should be given a trial run at flyhalf. The continued selection of Ruaridh Jackson and Henry Pyrgos as starting halfbacks is surely an indication that they will not be selected for Scotland’s game against Italy next week as current pair Weir and Laidlaw are both rested this weekend.

  • 4

Going to be a tough one for Glasgow to try and go and win down in Cardiff, hope Glasgow make it.

  • 5

Edinburgh must fancy their chances away to Connacht as they are not depleted due to international players being rested nearly as much as Glasgow due to them having far fewer in the current national squad.

  • 6

Jonny Gray is on the bench for Glasgow possibly to get more game time ahead of rest of Six Nations games, while Ross Ford is on the bench for Edinburgh is this a last chance saloon opportunity he gets to impress enough to get selected for rest of 6 Nations?

  • 7

I rate Edinburgh scrumhalf Grayson Hart who came off the bench for Scotland A against England Saxons and feel he has been getting limited game time at Edinburgh because Laidlaw is their captain. Hopefully he will have a very good game and catch the eye of national selectors, think Laidlaw should have been left at flyhalf anyway rather than going back to being a scrumhalf.

  • 8

Former Pumas player Carl Bezuidenhout starts at flyhalf for Edinburgh, I may be wrong but think this may be his first PRO12 game after last week’s one was postponed.

  • 9

Latest score from Dublin – Leinster 3/0 Dragons, game been on for about 25 min

  • 10

Latest score – Leinster 10/13 Dragons about 10min into 2nd half, GO DRAGONS!

  • 11

Halftime score was Leinster 10/3 Dragons, so it is a good comeback so far from Dragons.

  • 12

In the end Leinster got a bonus point victory with 4 tries to them, 2 of the tries were penalty tries. Final score – Leinster 31/19 Dragons

  • 13

That win takes Leinster to the top of the PRO12 table, for now

  • 14

After the losses of the Proteas, Bulls and Edinburgh at least one good result today for me with Glasgow Warriors securing a win late on against Cardiff Blues.

  • 15

Saturday’s PRO12 results: Connacht 11/7 Edinburgh, Munster 36/8 Zebre – bonus point win for Munster who got 5 tries and go back to the top of the table, Cardiff Blues 20/27 Glasgow Warriors.

  • 16

This has been speculated on for a while and now finally confirmed – Glasgow and Scotland tighthead prop Moray Low will leave Glasgow at end of season as he has signed a 2 year deal with Exeter Chiefs.

  • 17

Former Blue Bull Gerrit-Jan van Velze scored two tries for Northampton as they beat Worcester in the English Premiership (30/14), this takes Northampton back to the top of the table ahead of Saracens who were there after playing and winning their game against Sale Sharks on Friday.

Latest Ospreys 49/7 Treviso two quick tries for Ospreys, less than 20 min left

  • 23

Final score: Ospreys 75/7 Treviso! 11 tries for Ospreys who never let up with their last try being converted in the 80th minute
