French newspaper L’Equipe reports that the 24-year-old will join the club on a two-year-deal, replacing former All Black, Sitiveni Sivivatu, who is off to Castres.

The 10-Test capped player’s career has been marred by controversy.

After the Rugby World Cup in 2011, he was accused of drunken naked assaults during an alcohol-fuelled series of incidents, which led him to admit to alcoholism.

Guildord is expected to still play for the Crusaders in this year’s Super Rugby competition, before heading to France.
