End Of Year Tours: BaaBaas side named with 6 Bokke starters & 2 on the bench (Revised)

Barbarians RugbyThere are 6 Springboks in the starting 15 and a further 2 on the bench for the Barbarians’ clash with Fiji at Twickenham on Saturday. It would have been 7 Springbok starters as the initial side was named including Flip van der Merwe as No 4 lock, but he has been withdrawn from the squad after the Blue Bulls said NO under such short notice. Flip is directly replaced by Mick O’Driscoll of Ireland.

The Springbok captain, Jean de Villiers, will captain the side from inside centre and he will be joined in the backline by flyhalf Patrick Lambie whilst Schalk Burger, Duane Vermeulen, Bismarck du Plessis and Tendai Mtawarira have all been named in the forward pack. Coenie Oosthuizen and Willie le Roux is on the bench.

    Interesting side… and a strong one… with Coenie and Willie le Roux on the bench to even bolster it more.

    Recon Luke Whitelock will also bolster it from the bench.

    This team has the ammo to run absolute riot against Fiji… and could well do it, no matter what side Fiji puts out there.

    I see Flip van der Merwe has been withdrawn from the Barbarians side, after the Blue Bulls said NO to the release under such short notice!

    He is replaced in the starting lineup by Irishman Mick O’Driscoll.

    I see that JJ Engelbreght was also selected but the bulls blocked it.

    I wonder where Hansen would have played him?
