Frans SteynSharks centre Francois Steyn is set to undergo minor surgery that will rule him out of action for at least three weeks.

Steyn, 26, underwent surgery in May this year after he injured his leg playing for the Sharks against the Highlanders in the Super Rugby competition.

He was diagnosed with compartment syndrome – a heavy pressure build-up in a limb.

He made his return to action for the Sharks in the Currie Cup semi-finals against Free State two weeks ago and also played in their 33-19 final win over Western Province at Newlands on the weekend.

Steyn, who was not included in the Springbok squad named on Monday, will now have a scope to remove whatever still needs to be removed from his previous operation.

This means he won’t be available as a possible injury replacement for the duration of the Springboks’ end-of-year tour to Europe next month.

One Response to Frans Steyn back in surgery

So what was first… the chicken or the egg…

In other words, was Frans omitted from the Springbok squad and then decided on the surgery OR was he omitted because he was half injured and needed surgery?
