Michael RhodesWestern Province forward Michael Rhodes has been cited for a dangerous tackle in the Currie Cup Final against the Sharks at Newlands.

Rhodes was penalised in the second half for placing his arm around Sharks hooker Bismarck du Plessis’ neck in a maul and maintaining his grip for a few seconds, which is in breach of law 10.4 (e) relating to dangerous tackling.

The player will appear before a SARU disciplinary committee on Tuesday at 15.00 in Cape Town. Advocate Donny Jacobs has been appointed the judicial officer.

The versatile former Sharks and Lions forward received a one-match ban earlier in the season for trampling on Blue Bulls skipper Jono Ross.

So Rhodes moet gestraf word.

Rhodes is no shrinking violet, but what he did was a bit of a brain fart. Let’s be honest now.

    @ Scrumdown:
We agree with you fully. The argument is that Bismarck came of a stamping charge last week that was no accident at all but was ruled as accidental. So surely this must then also be ruled as accidental.

My problem with this citing and call, is why wait till the Currie Cup final to start blowing this infringement??? From Super 15 this year, I have called for refs to be consistent in their application of the rule! How can you use a stiff arm, decapitate somone, but in a maul or ruck, you may strangle the bastard………! Until now?!? Go back and watch the SA sides play each other in Super 15 and find one game where someone should not have been cited, for some teams it was their weapon of choice…………?….? The only problem is that Bismark should have, like any offender, have been sitting this one out……..!
