Craig BurdenToulonAnother South African is set to ply his trade at French Top 14 club Toulon, with Sharks hooker Craig Burden reportedly set to leave Durban.

Sport24

Burden will shortly leave for France where he will play for Toulon on a trial basis with the aim of making his stay permanent.

With Bismarck du Plessis at the Springboks, Monde Hadebe and Kyle Cooper are now expected to do duty at hooker for the Sharks for the remainder of the Currie Cup season.

Burden will join fellow South Africans Bryan Habana, Danie Rossouw, Joe van Niekerk, Bakkies Botha, Juan Smith and Michael Claassens at the big-spending French club.

    @ grootblousmile:
hahaha. I had read about this yesterday already.

Sad to see him leave the Sharks. Always gave his best and a REAL loyal Sharkie for sure.

I wish him all the very best in France.

Well can put this on here as it is sort of a Shark Thread…hehe.

This from Super Sport. See my Sharks will be rotating again this week. I am all for rotation, but think TOO much rotation can not work either. Players also get better the more they play together. Sometimes we need consistency. Really can’t change every single week, that does not work.

Just pleased to see Deysel will get a rest. He has been playing very well this CC and was starting to feel a bit worried with the huge work load he has taken that he will soon pick up a injury.

So kinda feel good that Deysel will get a rest this week. Also pleased to see Heimar will be back. Jeez not sure why he got dropped for so many games after he played so damn well. I know it was rotation, but really we need to sometimes keep up the consistency in selection. Just when we build some momentum with combinations then the next week we have a new player in. Would now like to see Heimar and Whitehead have two weeks playing together at least. Would also want to see Ludik start one game at fullback. I know he is leaving and SP Marais will play fullback next year for us. Just that is his best position. Would like to see how the team goes with Ludik at fb at some stage in this CC tourney.

I am the MOST PLEASED to see Tera finally getting a start. Rate him, but he needs plenty game time and hope he gets some more game time from here and at 8.

This is the probably team from Super Sport

Mtembu starts as Sharks rotate again

    ——————————————————————————–

The Sharks haven’t been shy to stick with their rotation policy now that the second half of the league phase of the Absa Currie Cup has been reached, with this weekend’s match against the Toyota Free State Cheetahs likely to see a much changed team from the one that beat Griquas in Kimberley.

According to how the Sharks trained on Tuesday, there will be a complete change to the back row, with Keegan Daniel reassuming the captaincy after playing under Jacques Botes so far in the Currie Cup season.

Botes, who has packed down at No 8, which is where Daniel moves from flank for the Cheetahs game, is being rested along with Jean Deysel.

Springbok Marcell Coetzee moves into Deysel’s position on the blindside flank, while the best bit of news is probably the return from the wilderness of Tera Mtembu.

The loose-forward played some great cameos for the Sharks during the Super Rugby season but this will be his first start in this year’s Currie Cup.

Normally a No 8, Mtembu will play at openside flank, where his pace and allround mobility is going to be relied on to negate the width that the Cheetahs bring to their game on attack.

The back row may be the only combination that has seen wholesale change since last week, but there are changes throughout the Sharks team, including the back three, where Odwa Ndungane returns on the right wing after recovering from injury in place of young Sizo Maseko.

Tim Whitehead moves to outside centre to allow Louis Ludik to rest this week, with Heimar Williams returning to the No 12 jersey worn by Whitehead against Western Province and Griquas.

As anticipated, the two-game flyhalf policy will see Butch James sit out this week and Fred Zeilinga returning to the No 10 jumper. Charl McLeod continues at scrumhalf after returning for Cobus Reinach just a week ago.

There is an injury enforced change in the second row, with Edwin Hewitt being rested because of minor injury that the Sharks medical staff don’t feel should be risked, while Dale Chadwick is expected back at loosehead for Danie Minnie as the only change to the front-row.

PROBABLE SHARKS STARTING TEAM: SP Marais, Odwa Ndungane, Tim Whitehead, Heimar Williams, Lwazi Mvovo, Fred Zeilinga, Charl McLeod, Keegan Daniel (capt), Marcell Coetzee, Tera Mtembu, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Peet Marais, Wiehahn Herbst, Kyle Cooper, Dale Chadwick
