White is understood to have asked to be released from his contract which had two years left to run on Friday last week.

The World Cup winning coach has been back in South Africa for a few weeks and has been spotted at Western Province (The Stormers) training session.

White has also been linked to Clermont Auvergne in the French Top14 as Vern Cotter is on his way out.

Canberra based Super Rugby franchise the Brumbies have yet to issue a statement confirming White’s departure.

Sources close to the Brumbies have however revealed that they have been considering his request since Friday and have just issued him a formal release now that his request is public knowledge.

Stephen Larkham is the most likely immediate replacement for White with the Brumbies.

Hy was nog vir twee jaar lank by dié span gekontrakteer.

If the reports of White joining the Sharks are true then good for SA Rugby, but a bit shaky for Smit who is chopping and changing a bit.r

But will White ever be Springbok coach again while Hoskins is around. He needs to do something at Super rugby level to prove himself again. And hopefully he can rid himself of that conservative game plan.

According to the Cape Times. Jake White has applied for the Maties job.

    =============================================================================================

Cape Town – Jake White will not be joining Western Province or the Stormers in any capacity following his resignation as Brumbies coach, but he could be headed to the Univesity of Stellenbosch as the Director of Rugby.

The Cape Times understands White has applied for the job at Maties, although there’s been no official confirmation from either camp.

White has left his Brumbies post just two months after guiding them to a Super Rugby final defeat against the Chiefs despite still having two years remaining on his contract.

White was immediately linked to possible posts at the Stormers and Sharks.

“I can assure you that this story is unfounded and is totally out of line. Jake White is not in our plans. We haven’t spoken to him and there have definitely not been any meetings with him. We are not looking at Jake White at all,” WP Rugby Union president Thelo Wakefield told the Cape Times.

WP Rugby chief executive Rob Wagner also dismissed the speculation. “We are aware that top-class coaches and players will always be linked to jobs or opportunities at the Stormers or WP, but we have not had any talks or negotiations with Jake White,” he said.

The Sharks have issued a statement saying they are open to talks with the former Springbok coach.

    5 @ Puma:
    Fark, Maties???

Jeeez, bit of a step down, hey!

I recon the Sharks DOR job is still on for him.

    6 @ grootblousmile:
Not really a step down if he becomes DOR for the University of Stellenbosch. I am sure he would be paid very well.

Another that has a similar job is John Mitchell. He is DOR in a University here in KZN. Remember he too was the ABs coach in 2003.

Anyhow Jake is also interested in coaching Argentina I read in the Aussie papers. There is also a rich French Club after him as well. So whether he comes to the Sharks we have to wait and see. I would like him to come, but not sure if he will. We will know soon enough as I doubt he wants to be out of a job for long.

I thought that Venter was DOR at the Sharks. Then one never truly knows. The last I read in the papers here when he joined the Sharks was that he would be here on a consulting basis. Then read on SW he is the DOR at Sharks. So have no clue really. What I do know is we don’t have a head coach for SR next year. Well not yet and I doubt it is our CC forwards coach.

I wonder where the Bulls u19s coach will fit in at the Sharks? He is joining the Sharks at the end of November.
