The Cheetahs flank, who is currently enjoying a stint at the Docomo Red Hurricanes in Osaka Nanko, said the only difference is that the tempo of play is a bit quicker than in the Currie Cup.

“The players are also smaller, but still physical and they tackle nice and low,” he said.

Brüssow’s team have played three warm-up games thus far and on Sunday start their league campaign against Kyuden Voltex.

“I only played 40 minutes in two of the games and it was quite an adaptation. Luckily one should be able to adapt fairly quickly.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for me to work on aspects of my game that needs attention. I will also get a chance to play more with the ball in hand here. They enjoy a fast tempo and to throw the ball around a bit.”

Two other South Africans, Wimpie van der Walt (Kings) and Riaan Viljoen (Sharks), have joined Brüssow for stints at Docomo.
