Demetri CatrakilisFlyhalf Demetri Catrakilis has reportedly signed a two-year deal with Western Province.

Cape Times

Catrakilis, 24, was originally loaned to WP from the Kings for this year’s Currie Cup competition in the hope of getting more exposure in the big time, as it is his ambition to play for the Springboks.

He joined the Kings from Western Province this year and performed well in their debut season in Super Rugby. But with Eastern Province not playing in the Currie Cup Premier Division, Catrakilis was allowed to re-join WP for the Currie Cup, with the agreement that the returns to Port Elizabeth at the end of the season.

However, with the Kings not participating in Super Rugby next season, it now appears that Catrakilis will make his stay in the Cape permanent. His contract at the Kings apparently allows him to sign elsewhere if the Kings are not part of Super Rugby.

Tuesday’s Cape Times reports that Catrakilis has signed with WP for two years. This new deal means that he will be available full-time for the Stormers and Western Province from next year.

Catrakilis is currently recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered playing for the Kings in their Super Rugby promotion-relegation match against the Lions on July 26. He is expected to return to action either this week or next.

WP tackle the Golden Lions in a Currie Cup game at Ellis Park on Friday (19:10 kick-off).
