Jaco TauteSpringbok fullback Jaco Taute has made his stay in Cape Town a permanent one.

Sport24

Taute, 22, joined the Stormers earlier this year on a loan agreement from the Lions.

His agent, Eduard Kelder from Prosport International, confirmed the news.

“Jaco has signed a two-year contract with WP. It will come into effect from November 1,” said Kelder.

Taute, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, became a free agent in July when his contract with the Golden Lions ended, which meant he was eligible to move to any team of his choice.

Meanwhile, the future of flyhalf Elton Jantjies remains uncertain.  The Springbok also joined the Stormers on loan from the Lions, but an indifferent season appears to have scuppered his chances of being offered a permanent stay at WP.

There will be more clarity on the matter next week.

Great signing by WP, as long as he pulls his finger and gets back to his Rugby.

    1 @ Stormersboy:

Was not impressed with him this year. Actually even when he played for the Boks was not impressed. Though he did play out of position at outside centre there. Taute is a FB so he should get better next year if he does not pick up a injury. That was a serious knee injury he picked up. What is happening with Elton? I see you have Demetri back for the CC. If Kings don’t win against the Lions later this month then you think Stormers will get Demetri back for SR next year? I somehow think Stormers are waiting to see if Kings win or not before opting for Elton. If Kings win then Demetri stays with Kings and I think Stormers then might offer Elton a contract. Just my feeling. I think though for Elton’s sake, he should go back to Lions if they beat the Kings and get back to SR. Their style of play suits him so much better and his confidence with them was always very good.

Ja Elton has had a strange season. At his best he is a great play-maker but to be honest I just don’t want to sit on the edge of my seat each week wondering which Elton will show up.

I’d rather have Peter Grant than him. And I would never have said that at the beginning of the season

    3 @ Stormersboy:
Elton just never progressed at the Stormers this year. Not even taking the kick offs or goal kicking either. I think his confidence will get back to where it was once he is back with the Lions during CC. Also feel he was a lot happier at Lions. The Lions supporters loved him and will be pleased he is back. Watch he will play some great rugby again. Remember Stormers just don’t play the type of rugby Elton was used to at the Lions. I think he will find good form again at the Lions. With all his old team mates he will feel a lot better there I am sure.

If Kings don’t make it think Demetri will get another offer from Stormers to go there. Think with him there and Gary you guys will be sorted at fh. Not sure about Grant is he coming back again next year after his stint in Japan? Rather let the CC guys play in SR next year. They are the players that are playing all season for their team. Well I say that we have JPP and Kanko off to Japan and I would want them back playing SR next year no matter where they are playing right now. So understand how you feel about Grant.

    @ Puma:
ja good luck to him. He strikes me as a player who needs momentum and confidence. He never had either in Cape Town this year.

What would please me greatly is if the other Lions signings, Rhodes and Cilliers, got off their injured buts and played some Rugby too.

I swear Keven De Klerk went to see a Sangoma to put a curse on all the Lions transfers. None have had an injury free season. Franco has done the best but even he has missed some games.

I think Sharks are gonna lose Ludik to a French club. Would be a massive loss for us. Rate him highly and was brilliant for us last year. I do hope we can secure him for next year. Though read in the Mercury this week that Greenaway wrote that Ludik had already signed with a for a club over there. He is normally spot on in his articles. Not sure who we will have at fb for next year then. No Viljoen or Ludik then. Not too sure about Fransie at fb. He did play well there for Boks in the BIL tour and the Tri-Nations in 2009. Just have to wait and see. I would love for Sharks to get A. Coetzee…hahahaha. Lions supporters wont like that. Though think he has a contract until next year with the Lions.

What about Kolbe now that you have Taute? Jeez I think Kolbe will be a great at fb. Much like Aplon only better I feel.

Van der Merwe at the Sharks had the best loan deal out of all the Lions. He has played every game so far. Think he really enjoyed it at the Sharks as well. He was brilliant last week against the Bulls. That was his best game of the season.

What you think of A. Coetzee from the Lions? Damn so sorry he got injured just when we got him on loan. Wonder how long his contract is with the Lions?

    @ Stormersboy:
Cheslin would suite the type of style the Sharks play, what you say we can have him?…….hahahahaha. He was terrific in the JWC this year. Must have been the Baby Boks best player in that tourney.

  • 10

Okay back in 20min. Have to take a call.

  • 11

    @ Puma:
Grant is solid but limited as a player, so I was hoping that Elton would fire here, as last season he was in the top 4 fly-halves with Goosen, Pat and Morne. This year he obviously struggled. It is such a key position for a team and one you have to be able to fit with the style of play that your team favours.

I must reluctantly admit that Grant fits the (current) Stormers pattern of play much better than Elton. Dimitri will fit in well with this style too.

The jury is still out on Gary but he loves to run. Passes really well and licks brilliantly. Not the biggest guy but he seemed solid enough on defense in the games he has played this year.

    @ Puma:
Ja you guys need a decent 15 with both your 15’s leaving. He would be a great addition to any team. A very good player.

    12 @ Stormersboy:
Yip would not mind Cheslin or A. Coetzee coming to the Sharks. Both are terrific fbs. I am hoping first prize is that we can keep Ludik. Just read in the Mercury from a Greenaway article that Ludik has signed with a European club already. He is mostly spot on, then he could be wrong here as have not read it anywhere else yet. So there is a slight bit of hope that we can hang onto Ludik. Though with Ludik I thought he was our best FB later last year and he never got a Bok call up which I thought was unfair. Players that get overlooked like that leave eventually as there is no more to gain here in SA. Most at that level are hoping to play for the Boks. Will be a big loss for Sharks. Unless Fransie can play there and get the form he was in during 2009. Still think Fransie is a better inside centre than fb. That is when he is fit.

Sharks need centres and a conditioning coach…. hehehehe

…. and a couple of wheelchairs and walking rings… and a Retirement Village subscription….

    @ Puma:
Cheslin is an incredible runner and stepper with the ball. Stepping is probably the wrong word to use as he seems to glide past people with ease 😉

He is a tiny guy, noticeably smaller than Aplon, so I will wait to see if he can step up. If he can he’ll be fantastic to watch.

    @ grootblousmile:
Or they could wait a few years for all the out of town youngsters they have signed to come through….

    😀

    16 @ Stormersboy:
Yip…one sees their scouts out at Bulletjie Rugby (Under 6) already…. hehehehe

  • 18

He was so fukken average, I hope that he was cheap.

  • 19

    @ Loosehead:
He barely got any game time, but the game time he did get was pretty poor it’s true.

  • 20

    Cheers Jaco.

    Don’t forget who made you.

Please don’t forget your 30 pieces of silver!

You also a Voldy (Keo) man?

Welcome to the Friendly Rugby Website!

  • 23

I really hope he plays decent rugby and not the way he has been palying since been selected Boks. One dimensional predictable

  • 24

    @ grootblousmile:

Thanks GBS. Stormersboy suggested we come and play here.So far so good!

I hope your team does well against my Strompies. (I am a closet Bulls supporter)Twice I’ve seen our top chances blown away. First the Lions some time back. And last year the Sharks. Not a good feeling
