Schalk BurgerVeteran Springbok Schalk Burger is back in hospital and scheduled to go under the knife again.

A statement from the Burger family revealed that the Stormers player, Burger, will undergo a “minor procedure” on Wednesday.

This is part of his recovery from a recent operation to reduce pressure on a nerve that was influencing the performance of his calf muscle.

Burger underwent surgery at the end of March on a nerve in his back and will now have that wound drained in hospital.

The 30-year-old loose forward, who was a member of South Africa’s victorious squad at the 2007 World Cup, contracted bacterial meningitis after his operation in March.

He is also still to recovering from that setback.

It is not known at this stage when Burger will be fit to return to training.

Burger has not played since a knee injury he sustained in the opening round of the 2012 Super Rugby season.

“Schalk has had a tough time, but he has been recovering well at home and has been in better spirits of late,” said Burger’s agent, Craig Livingstone.

“He will return to hospital to have the wound drained and cleaned up and he will return home when the doctors are happy that he is well enough.”

    Get well soon Schalla!

Heck, he’s been out of the Game since February 2012…. a long time and a lot of difficulties in between.

Hope he has fully recovered from the bacterial meningitis, that’s not a nice thing to have.

Ai tog, die man raak nou op, weet nie of hy weer met dieselfde vuur sal terugkom nie……miskien moet hy hom maar op die wynmakery begin toespits, soos ekke! Delicious

I hope that Schalk makes a full recovery and graces the field in the Green & Gold again.
