DHL-StormersAllister Coetzee, the head coach of the DHL Stormers, has released an injury update after his team’s 36-34 Vodacom Super Rugby win over the Chiefs this past weekend.

Bryan Habana update:

Wing Bryan Habana underwent a scan after suffering a knee injury on Saturday. Habana has partially torn his Medial Collateral Ligament in his left knee. He will be out of rugby for ten weeks.

Other injury news:

Forward Michael Rhodes (hamstring), centre Juan de Jongh (hamstring) and fullback Jaco Taute (groin area) will continue with one-on-one rehabilitation this week. They will all three be ready for full training next week – ahead of the DHL Stormers’ next match against the Brumbies (Saturday, March 23 – 19h10, DHL Newlands).

“When you lose a Springbok and a quality player like Bryan (Habana) it’s never an ideal situation, but we’re getting Jaco Taute back. Gerhard van den Heever played very, very well when he came on, and Gio Aplon played just as well, so we have enough replacements there,” said Coetzee.

“We wish Bryan well for a speedy recovery and when he returns he’ll be back in the mix, but our focus is fully on the replacements now,” added the Stormers coach.

“The bye has come at a good time for us, as it will allow these few injury niggles that we have to clear up and, importantly, it will also allow us to take stock of where we’re at after our first three games.”

Eben is still a few weeks away, although De Kock Steenkamp is filling in nicely at no 4, he stole a bunch of lineout balls the past weeks, so in spite of his perception as a lightweight at 4, he is doing an excellent defensive job.

Just read on SW that Botes out for about a month. Deysel out as well and will go for another scan this Thursday. So how long Deysel will be out have no idea. All I know is we have lost now our only two players that could have stopped G. Smith this weekend. We in trouble I feel. Just too many injuries coming one after the other.

PSDT will have to step up and play blindside this Saturday and probably move Coetzee to openside but would have liked it if we brought in Kleinhans. Eish! not good news for my Sharks.

Just when Deysel was back to his very best he gets injured. Why did Plum play him when he picked up a niggle in the warm up before the game on Saturday have no idea, as it must have made that injury much worse. Feel for Deysel pity he picked up this injury when Alberts is out as he would be getting selected all the time. Huge pity. Big player to lose right now as well.

Stormers injury problems are coming to a end. They will get back most of their players probably after their bye this weekend. Expect for Eben think he will be back a bit later and he is probably the player they miss the most.

    @ Puma:
Yes it is looking better than earlier, we have cover for Eben, in fact De Kock has been very good, he stole a bunch of balls last weekend and the one before that so the lineout is still a force to be reconed with and now that Tiaan is back we will be stronger in the front row as well.

Bryan will be missed for sure, any team would miss him but we do have cover in Taute coming back and also GVDH.

The Sharks get Keegan and lose Deysel and Botes. Sounds like us last season.

Injuries are a curse really. Puts a team right back, but it will always happen in this tourney to most teams, whether they lose as many as the Sharks at once or not, injuries will always happen. Just a pity we lose two players that we really need for this game. Will be great to have Keegan back. Just hope he is not being rushed back because the other players are now out injured. Season is still very long and we will need Keegan for the rest of our games.
