Die wedstyd is deel van die Gauteng Sports Challenge wat deur die Gauteng provinsiale regering aangebied word.
Stegmann, wat verlede jaar min speelkans gehad het weens ‘n klomp beserings, lei ‘n span op die veld met ‘n mengsel van jeug en ervaring, terwyl ‘n paar nuwe gesigte ook hul debuut sal maak.
Die kantman is een van vier Springbokke in die span, terwyl die Junior Springbokke van 2012 ook goed verteenwoordig word met Travis Ismaiel, Jan Serfontein en Paul Willemse in die beginspan en Wiaan Liebenberg en Handrè Pollard op die bank. Die Lions-leenspeler, Lionel Mapoe, sal buitesenter teen sy ou spanmaats speel.
“Dit is opwindende tye wat voorlê,” het die Vodacom Bulls afrigter, Frans Ludeke erken.
“Ons staan aan die begin van ‘n nuwe seisoen, een waarvoor ons groot planne en ambisie het. Die span het hard gewerk om vanjaar suksesvol te wees en hierdie sal die eerste tree wees op ons pad na sukses. Die Lions het reeds wedstryde teen Rusland en die Cheetahs gespeel en sal die voordeel van daardie momentum hê, so ‘n goeie begin sal belangrik vir ons wees.”
Volgens Stegman, wat in 2010 in die Vodacom Bulls se eindstryd teen die Stormers in Orlando gespeel het, voel dit goed om weer terug te keer na daardie stadion.
“Ons het beslis goeie herinnering van ons vorige besoek daar. Die atmosfeer was ongelooflik en ek hoop ons kan weer ‘n goeie vertoning aan ons ondersteuners bied. Die Lions het baie om te bewys, so ons besef dit gaan ‘n baie harde wedstryd wees. Ons wil egter ook graag ons seisoen op ‘n goeie noot afskop, so is gretig om ons bes te gaan lewer.”

Same situation as the Cheetahs of the past weekend really… and still no excuse to lose badly against the Lions.
Lots of untested combinations and players at the fringe of possibly eventually breaking through, so beware Bulls, I still want and expect a win!

Lol, still a lot of talented players there. Jurgens Visser is dating one of my clients’ youngest daughter. Jean Cook is a good player, it was a pity he left the Cheetahs. Arno Botha and Wiaan Liebenberg also very good prospects for the future.
I hope Willemse learns a lot from Vic.

Lions should win to rights on Saturday, already 2 full games behind them and fully into their own season.
That said, with the amount of players the Lions have lost there would not have been a chance for them against a full-strenght Bulls side.
I still want the Bulls youngsters to do well and for a lot to stick up their hands for a run-on spot in Super Rugby.
Like Shosoloza I think Louis Fouché is very limited and this specific Bulls side has not played together at all, but there are a few guys with heaps of potential.

Hope these guys have a good game and give the coaches lots of tough choices to make when choosing the team with good depth, that loose trio looks really strong and so their is lots of competition for places there. Just odd that even in this experimentall team there is no place for Rudy Paige surely he is not ahead of Vermaak in the pecking order but must be close to Snyman, maybe the coaches wanted to keep some experience at scrumhalf to guide the young flyhalfs.

Ek is nogal uit gehonger vir Rugby! Ek kyk nie juis die noordelike halfrond se rugby nie. Het nou die dag op ESPN die 2009 en 2010 Super Rugby finale gekyk, man daai was nou vir jou ‘n span! Hoop maar ou Frans is op die regte pad, en as ek kyk na die spelers wat ons huidiglik het, lyk dit goed so ver.

The Lions have some very exciting prospects, unbelievable gees and a point to prove. It will do us no favours to continually face experimental sides. However, at this point in the season, that’s what all the coaches are doing. Giving all their players a chance to put up their hands for starting spots when the season starts. Hope for the Bulls supporters sakes that Ludeke will play a more expansive game this season. I am looking forward to Saturday’s game. Looks like Ludeke picked a team full of running, so maybe he is changing tactics.
