Mr. Jantjies, aged 46, died in Pretoria on Saturday following complications after being stung by a bee. He had been taken up in 1 Military Hospital in Voortrekkerhoogte.

“We really are one big family at the Bulls and we all feel with the Jantjies family in this difficult time,” said Xander Janse van Rensburg, the High Performance Manager at the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd.

The BBC also requests media to respect the privacy of the family in this difficult time.

No funeral arrangements has been made at this stage and will be released once it is done.

It was always his dream that his sons, Elton, 22, and Tony, 20, would play for the national team, Elton made his debut for the Springboks in September last year and Tony played for the Baby Boks against Ireland.

At the Stormers’ last training camp Elton said his father played a big role in his rugby career.

“He would always help me with my kicking. When I am tired, he would push me. He is always the one who would say stay positive,” he was quoted as saying.

One would think this day and age specially when alive and in hospital a person would not die from Bee stings or snake bites?

Especially a bee sting. Not sure how it went wrong.

Well this is a different case, but I remember many years back one of my dogs got stung by a bee and almost died, he hemorrhaged from it and almost bleed to death. They saved him eventually it took about 10 days in the Vet then when he came out almost died AGAIN as he got a liver problem from it. They eventually sort that out as well. Jeez bees can be killers really if you allergic to them. But my feeling is like yours if you in the hospital they should be able to get to the problem. Then again we have no idea what reaction he had and which and what was affected. Really sad to lose a life that way. So very young too.

    @ Puma:
Thing I am thinking is maybe he did not know he was allergic? and did not immediately go to the hospital or Doctor?

    8 @ Sharks_forever:
That could be possible. Very serious to get a bee sting if you allergic. First thing that swelled with my dog is the throat and it made it very difficult to breath. Then remember his whole face swelled about 3 times the size, was unbelievable to think a bee could cause that, then the hemorrhaging and liver problems after from one single bee sting. Not sure if it is the same in humans, or how it affects us that are allergic to them. I am not though as have been stung twice and was okay.

Shame, i feel for the family, not something one expects. RIP Thomas, hope that the sons are not affected too much, their Dad would have loved for them to go on.
Maybe the Stormers must release him back to the North, to be with his Mother who needs him most now.

    Emergency treatment for allergic reactions
During an anaphylactic attack, an emergency medical team may perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if you stop breathing or your heart stops beating. You may be given medications including:

Epinephrine (adrenaline) to reduce your body’s allergic response
Oxygen, to help compensate for restricted breathing
Intravenous (IV) antihistamines and cortisone to reduce inflammation of your air passages and improve breathing
A beta agonist (such as albuterol) to relieve breathing symptoms

    Epinephrine autoinjector
If you’re allergic to bee stings, your doctor will likely prescribe an emergency epinephrine autoinjector (EpiPen, Twinject). You’ll need to carry it with you at all times. An autoinjector is a combined syringe and concealed needle that injects a single dose of medication when pressed against your thigh. Always be sure to replace epinephrine before its expiration date, or it may not work properly.

Western Province has sent its condolences to the Jantjies family, after the sad news of the sudden passing of fly-half Elton Jantjies’s father, Thomas, at the weekend.

Elton, 22, joined the Stormers at the start of the year but has returned home to be with his family during this sad time.

“Family comes first, so we immediately got Elton onto a flight back home,” said Stormers coach Allister Coetzee.

“Elton can take as long as he needs to process this and work through his grief. He has the full support of all of us at Western Province and Stormers rugby.”
