Ireland have confirmed that backrow Stephen Ferris will miss Ireland’s opening Autumn International against South Africa this weekend due to injury.

Ferris injured his ankle whilst playing for his club Ulster on Friday and will not be available for an undetermined time frame.

The Ireland medical team say that the scale of the injury will keep him out of not only this weekend’s clash against the Springboks but also the match against Fiji in Limerick a week later.

Ireland play Argentina in their third Autumn International but the medical team have not made a decision on Ferris’ fitness for that clash.
