Former Scotland international Bryan Redpath has been sacked as director of rugby at Sale Sharks.

The team has suffered their worst ever Premiership start, losing all seven of their top flight matches so far.

Their win over Cardiff Blues in their opening game of the Heineken Cup remains their only win of the season.

Former All Blacks coach John Mitchell, who is currently with the club as a consultant, is expected to agree a full-time position in due course.

Chief executive Steve Diamond will take temporary charge of team affairs.

Redpath, 41, who won 60 caps for Scotland between 1993 and 2000, spent five years as a player with Sale from 2000-2005.

After ending his playing career in 2005 he joined Gloucester as backs coach and was promoted to head coach in 2009 following the departure of former England international Dean Ryan.

He resigned as Gloucester coach in April after four successive defeats and was appointed as the Sale boss less than two months later.

Heard not long ago that although Bryan Redpath has been sacked as Director of Rugby at Sale that he has been offered some other job at a lower level of coaching I think at the club and has two days to decide if he wants to stay for that or not

While Byran Redpath was sacked as Director of Rugby at Sale he was offered and accepted the post of Head coach, quite a short statement from Sale owner Brian Kennedy confirming this : http://www.salesharks.com/news/1520.php
