There is growing media speculation that former Stormers Director of Coaching Rassie Erasmus will be named as High Performance manager for the South African Rugby Union (SARU).

The executive council of SARU are meeting in Cape Town on Friday for the body’s Annual General Council Meeting (AGCM), which has brought about speculation regarding what changes might be implemented.

Should the rumours about Erasmus be true, the former Springbok loose forward will effectively be that of director of rugby under Springbok level.

Erasmus would then also be involved in some of the planning within the Springbok management team, as well as a number of other responsibilities including setting up coaching structures.

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer is still yet to name his coaching staff, although it is believed that Bulls duo Ricardo Loubscher (backline coach) and John McFarland (defence) have been lined up.

SARU have announced that Pat Kuhn and Tobie Titus were elected as members of the Executive Council (Exco) on Friday, and will serve a four-year term on the 12-person Exco.

Kuhn was re-elected, while Titus will take up his position after standing down as president of the Western Province Rugby Football Union.

The Exco manages the strategic direction of SARU on the mandate of the General Council.

The AGCM also approved SARU’s annual accounts which showed a pre-tax profit of R24m.
