The Golden Lions Rugby Union has given Rugby-Talk 10 match day tickets for every Super Rugby home game of the Lions for 2012.
Firstly I have to thank Krystle Geach at the Lions for this kind gesture and consideration, it is appreciated, and we’ll put the tickets to good use.
This set me thinking… in addition to the Lions tickets, maybe I should approach the other 4 Super Rugby Franchises for match day tickets as well, and here’s why!
I’ve been mulling the idea around in my head, driving around yesterday and last night.
I want to initiate a weekly award of tickets to the most honourable causes of the week. By this I mean ticket give-aways to some vervent rugby supporters who simply do not have the means to purchase them, or possibly to a deserving act by some Police Station somewhere… or a good news story for somebody with a disability… or to some Children’s home…
Something along those lines…
Kindly respond to this Article by giving me more ideas!
The main aim would be for RUGBY to benefit from this, and of course for the honourable cause we choose to benefit even more!
Weekly, we could have an Article asking for deserving causes, deserving people!
We could also give some of these tickets to our weekly leader in our Rugby-Talk Super Rugby 2012 SuperBru pool, to the game of the next week which he would want tickets for.
In addition we could award tickets to the best blogger of the week, someone with a really good comment or 2.
We could even Auction some tickets to hand-picked matches off and the proceeds could go to our charity of choice.
Come on people, I expect a lot of debate from you on this… a lot of ideas!
We have a unique opportunity here to do something really good for some really deserving people, let’s not let this one slip!
Here’s a challenge: I challenge every Rugby-Talker to come up with at least 2 good ideas to make this work and with 5 worthy causes we could include in our give-aways!

It does not matter if you have or have had a beef with me before!

What matters is that we do this thing right, and properly!

31@ Loosehead:We certainly could – only problem is it is a helluva long way to come out here, pick up, bring back and then go back to CT again. Effectively 4 trips. We have a big bus company here – Gaffleys (you may have heard of it), who, I am sure would be up for it – we could give the bus driver a ticket too, that would swing it!
Great chance for Rugby Talk to give someone a fun day out.
Perhaps some of the less glamorous chairities could get a look in….The Elderly, Prostate Awareness Organisations, Mental Health Charities.
I am sure there are many South African versions of the ones we in Europe are familiar with.
They could either raffle the tickets or send one of their deserving friends.
OK we in Hoedspruit still dont have water yes tomorrow it will be 30 days, my wife wants to bath she is all grumpy and i totally understand, i drove around to all the wonderful water tanks that our local Municipality brags about, all EMPTY. Wait when i drove back from my Roadstall i saw a tanker , that was 18:30, the crowd gathered around it scared me and i am now back home without water. I will try a bit later say around 22:00 , maybe there will still be a bit for me.
My swimming pool is below the the pump level by now so that water is fast becoming unusable for washing, Fark this is a horror story..
GBS there is a guy who started a walk from Ermelo to Hoedspruit to collect money for the flood victims, on the second night out he was robbed and shot 3 times, he is in hospital now. Maybe he would appreciate a ticket. Maybe you can offer a package of 10 tickets to the flood relief guys here, maybe to the Red Cross or whatever. I will mail you the real heroes here names. Debbie is a angel in our community she work non stop , maybe she can raffle a packet of tickets.
RT can get great exposure with a donation like that.

On Monday morning – 13th Feb, Marius Scholtz started walking from Ermelo to Hoedspruit with the intention of raising funds for the Hoedspruit Flood Victims – we were all planning to arrange a big Hoedspruit welcome on his arrival in town late Feb/ early March. However, last night, just outside Chrissiesmeer, he was attacked in his little roadside camp and his attackers shot in his foot and leg before escaping Marius is now sitting in hospital instead of continuing with his walk towards our little town. This is obviously a real tragedy for this to happen to someone who was doing something fantastic to assist us as a community. Please can I ask all Hoedspruiters to search for his facebook group – “Walk for Flood Victims – Ermelo to Hoedspruit”, join the group and to please send him 100’s of messages and Hoedspruit well wishes. We really need to stand behind him and show him how grateful we are for what he was doing and for his well intended actions towards us in the first place.

I think your ‘Flood Victim’ man would be at the top of the pile for tickets when he recovers!!

It is with tears in my eyes that i write this.
BB i dont worry about this, my wife actually takes it well, we are just a bit inconvenienced , if that is the right word. A bit pissed off in Afrikaans. But others have lost their whole lives, all their precious belongings. One off my best friends Winston of witch i posted many pictures over the years lost his and MY best PUB/Restuarant. Can you remember Josmacks Bush Pub, my un-official HQ? Well it was totally flooded, water up to the roof. So by the way if GBS wants to give a pair of tickets to a Lion supporter Winston might just be his best bet. Give him a Bulls vs Lion Game maybe he will take me with, LOL.

Sounds like Winston has lost a well loved watering hole along with his belongings and livelhood.
You are being very stoic about the whole situation, to me it sounds terrible and a huge inconvenience for everyone. The authorities need to pull their fingers out!
Come on people we need MUCH more input here… and time is running out.
Today is exactly 1 week away from Super Rugby…. I need to act later today!
Without sounding callous and insensitive, and I really am not, it would be very difficult to use the tickets for people that need a lot of help. i.e. more helpers than people the tickets were meant for. And whilst in no way saying that people with disabilities should in any way be prejudiced, it will be a very difficult thing to fulfil other than just donating the tickets to a charity (which is a worth cause in itself). But I was thinking, how about doing something for the carers of the homes, hospitals, etc. where so many good people give so much of their time and effort in helping those less fortunate than themselves, and asking for nothing in return.
So my next idea is really an extension of superBul’s idea, and is to give the tickets to people who go so far out of their way to help others. Those people are the unsung hero’s of our society, and would be a wonderful way of saying thank you.

Yip, that’s basically what I had in mind… give tickets to those who make a special contribution to society.
… and to give to parties which could get themselves to the game…
Only in very special cases might we entertain giving tickets where a lot of assistance would be needed to get a person to the game.
