This section deals with the locks for the Stormers. As with the Hookers, I think this is one of the stronger areas of the Stormers team, and when Bekker is back, it will make for one of the better lock combinations in the competition.
There is a lot of youth here, and as long as the youngsters come through, and don’t get lost to other teams, the future in this department looks bright. Same thing applies to as to the previous posts, give me hell, I can take it!
Andries Bekker

Big and strong, lived in Matfields shadow for the past few years, the big No 5, is one of South Africas best lineout forwards, and not a man to shirk his duties on the frontline. A hard man and strong ball carrier, Bekkers lineout abilities and ball poaching second only to the retired Matfield. Consistant injuries may be the biggest problem.
Rynhardt (Rocky) Elstadt

Still on the injured list, Elstadt hopes to be back before the ‘Canes game. Some are still unconvinced, but Elstadt was as good an enforcer in his last year as any of the others I saw.
Eben Etzebeth

Tall, athletic lock with a high work rate, although yet to prove himself in the Stormers side, he has more than proven himself in both SA U20 competitions and in the WP squad. Probably the future of Western Cape rugby with Elstadt when Bekker bows out.
Hilton Lobberts

Better known as a loosie, Lobberts made his senior debut for the Bulls in 2005 and appeared in two Tests for the Springboks the following year. Western Province signed him 2009, but injuries have limited him to just 14 appearances in the blue-and-white striped jersey. A wily, street wise lock, he is a good scrummager, good lineout contestor and an enforcer, he is one of the hard men in SA rugby.

Originally from Pretoria Roux came down to the Western Province Institute a few years ago, and started his career from there At the age of just 20, he is a tall and athletic lock, and shaping up to be one of the games new enforcers.
Michiel De Kock ( De Kock) Steenkamp

De Kock Steenkamp’s chance came in 2009, following the departure of Chris Jack, and the injury to Springbok Andries Bekker meant that De Kock was thrust into the Vodacom WP’s side during their Currie Cup campaign. This brought about a call up to the Stormers squad for 2010. The warm up game in Wellington saw him don the captains armband, and this coupled with the next warm ups, he will be hoping to prove himself as back up to Bekker this season.
Estebeth looked good for the U/20 Boks, look forward to seeing him in Super rugby. Lobberts is a walking penalty, and Stormers will hope they don’t need to play him

The Stormers frontline locks are very good!
Eben Etsebeth & Rynhardt Elstadt competing for the No 4 berth.
Andries (Langbek) Bekker & De Kock steenkamp competing for the No 5 lock.
Old “Moerbroer” Lobberts should not get much game time or attention in this comp and neither should Quinn Roux.
I know we hate it but the color thing will be strong this year. Bulls would have used Fudge a lot , but he is out for the season. Stormers will have the same pressure on their team selections. Mark my word we will miss the Peter de Villiers factor because of this.
Voldys is abuzz with this stories, lets hope and pray the elections keep the politicians busy and away from rugby matters, give HM a year to get us winning big time.

I think as we are going into another match this w/end, it is only fair to have the whole team up now, so it is open for debate! I also may have to start picking grapes for bubbly this week because of the hot weather were having, and may not have much more time!!!

Superbul – For the Stormers, I don’t think that it is the issue too much. Starting at the top, AC, then Aplon, Habanna, Conradie, Schroder, Kolisi, Carr, Coleman and De Jonge – all who have the chance of starting matches, with other names on the bench. I am not saying that theses are the best in the team necessarily, but through rotation we should begin to see a more evenly balanced team – if that is what is required!

Last year teams made it to the playoffs with up to 5 games lost. I would love to win all my S15 games but what is the point if you play 14 win 14 and lose in the first semi final. The real trick will be to plan your wins. The Bulls was in the almost impossible position , where they had to win their last 7 or 8 matches to lift the trophy. They managed 6 i think and missed the last one against the Sharks. So a bonus point or 2 could have taken that scenario out.
My point is would you rather play a weakened team to rest your best players for a more crucial game or will the coaches play to win every game and kill their star players.
That is one thing the NZ teams do better , they have compulsory rest weeks for some of their players
