Grant to re-join Stormers after Japanese Cup

Stormers and Springbok fly half Peter Grant has agreed to return to Cape Town to play Super Rugby for the Stormers in the upcoming season.

Grant plays for the Kobe Steelers and will return for his seventh Super Rugby campaign at the end of the Japanese Cup.

The former Springbok returned from Japan just in time for the Stormers first match in 2011 – they started a week later than the rest of the field – and started in nine matches for the Stormers.

While Grant finished the Super rugby season as first choice number 10, Gary van Aswegen and Demetri Catrakilis have impoved as players and will challenge Grant for his place.

Meanwhile the Stormers are reported to be in talks with Saracens in England about getting 32-year-old Deon Carstens to move back to South Africa.

Peter Grant is a very solid player, he may never rise to the ranks of the greats in the No.10 shirt, but you always know where you are with him. He gives 100% every time he pulls on the shirt, and I would be very happy to see him pulling it on again.

@ ben_die_bul: It’s the chicken wings we keep choking on, due to our dentures. We have medical teams down here that are set to become specialists in the Heimlich maneuver by the beginning of the next season. Just you wait, no choking for us then!

@ ben_die_bul:If the Aussies get to 300, we really are going to struggle, batting last on a pitch that is going to open up like the Grand Canyon, was perhaps, not the best decision.

    4 & 5 @ Just For Kicks:
Well, why would New Zealanders not love Bryce Lawrence…. he managed to propel Aussie through to the semi’s, effectively knocking the All Blacks biggest threat (Springboks) out of the running!

I really don’t understand the WP / Stormers’ brains trust.

Sure, Peter Grant is a solid Stand Off, but as JFK stated above, he’ll never be a World beater.

WP showed in the CC that there is depth in the Province at 10, with effectively the 4th choice Stand Off , (the cafe owner’s) son having an exceptional year.

Why oh why don’t they develop the talent in their own region and what they already have?

    Agree Scrumdown.

What message does that leave for the youngsters? Dimiri and Gary are both rare talents. Would love to see them behind a dominant pack in the future.
