The Russian Rugby Union (RRU) have revealed that they will bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup after making their debut last month in New Zealand.

“During our board meeting RRU president Vyacheslav Kopyev stated that Russia would lodge a formal bid to host the World Cup in 2023,” the union said on its website.

“The Russian team had a respectable showing in New Zealand, scoring eight tries – a great achievement for the World Cup debutants.”

“Still, we fell short of our main objective -we could not win against the United States.”

Russia lost all four of their Rugby World Cup matches in the group stage including losses to Australia, Ireland, Italy and the USA.

Russia’s coach Nikolay Nerush resigned after the team failed to win a match.

England are set to host the 2015 Rugby World Cup and Japan will host the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Russia will host the last sevens World Cup in 2013 as the sport will make its Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

“One of our objectives is to win the rugby sevens World Cup in 2013 and also compete in a (15-a-side) World Cup on a regular basis,” the RRU said.

    And why the hell not?

The IRB keep on making noises about taking the game to Rugby’s “developing nations”. Here’s a chance to put words into action.

However, the IRB are nothing if not a bunch of lying, back stabbing two faced gits. So expect it (RWC 2023)to be at one of the founder members.

If the Russian Rugby Federation want a voice in Southern Africa to punt theur cause, they can give me a shout.

Will South Africa bid for that wc? I would like it to be here. Cause after 2023 I may be far too old by the time it gets back here.

Probably the IRB will never want it back in SA. But we have a great country to hold it and the best climate. On the same time zone as Europe as well.

    Give it to us…..lol.
