All Blacks were taken by surprise when told Springbok coach Peter de Villiers feels their famous pre-match haka, an indigenous Maori war dance, is over-used.

Sport24

The eye-rolling, foot-stomping Maori challenge, entitled “Ka Mate”, has been performed before Test matches by the All Blacks since 1905, becoming an integral part of the international rugby landscape.

“Did he? Too much haka! What can you say to that,” said an incredulous Andy Ellis before passing over to Corey Flynn, who is part-Maori.

“I don’t think anyone really listens to what Peter de Villiers says so I think we’re all pretty safe there,” said Flynn.

De Villiers said New Zealanders risked over-exposing the haka as they host this year’s Rugby World Cup, diminishing its significance.

Div speaks the truth about the haka dance.

But don’t give the opposition ammo to use against you. JW did that against Ireland, and PDV has done it countless times

    I Agree Lion4never

  • 4

Although i also think he is right , it is way over used , but sometings should always be thought of and spoken not of lol

  • 5

I have to agree with Snorre on this one.

For any foreigner to New Zealand and it’s traditions, to make ANY public statement on it’s culture or traditions is naiive, foolhardy and plain farking dumb!

It’s not as if we in South Africa have not had to deal with this before either. We’ve had the whole world judge South Africa on it’s past and make their public assumptions about it’s people, and as a South African and Afrikaner I’ve been heavily pissed off on many occasions about the assumptions made about what transpired or still transpires from day to day in OUR Country and the role my people played in history.

Tell me you have not been pissed off about the same thing?

Now Snorrie goes, at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, and stupidly chooses to stick his nose where it does not belong… clearly indicating just how undiplomatic and foolhardy this poephol of a man is… what a fruitcake, what an imbecile…. and he is the man who has to bring William Webb-Ellis home.

One can excuse many things and one can right many wrongs, but I am afraid, there is no cure for utter stupidity!

How easy would it have been to deflect a question of this nature? Childs play I tell you… just say that you have no comment about the traditions of the country in question, that it is not your place to make a judgment on the issue, simple as that.

What is this fool going to do next, insult the British Monarchy?

    What a chop!

Oh…was he asked the question. I thought he had volunteered an opinion. Well its just simple politeness when you are a guest and all parties are on equal terms if you are asked a question you don’t want to answer, you merely ask straight back “why do you want my opinion, or “why are you asking me that”. If they persist, he should use a tactic he has used before which is “I’m not going to venture an opinion”. It merely shows he does not engage mind before he engages mouth ( a malady familiar to me, I am sometimes too opinionated), but I would never in an official capacity take anything but the party line….when I’m on my own amongst friends then I let the guard down….Ag Pieter, jy het nou weer k*k aangejaag! I was Secretary of the South African Combat Rifle Association and competed for 27 years in this sport and with overseas teams visiting or us visiting them Conceited I was asked many political questions, which I always deflected…in the evenings having a braai or whatever if a Sergeant Major asked me various things I gave him an honest opinion (all those f*$kers are realists anyway) and that is as far as it went because I would ask the guy to treat it in confidence. There is a Sergeants Major union, just like there is a front row union…the ou’s stick together because we all know when and how brown stuff can hit the fan. Conceited

I don’t know whether he was asked or volunteered his opinion. Put it this way, volunteering an opinion like this makes it bloody worse… it means he had time to think, but nevertheless thought with his arse end in stead of the peanut up top!

I hear what you say about the difference between a private conversation, held in confidence, compared to a public speech and Q & A session… and I think you acted correctly… it’s what I would have done too.

We all have opinions about all and sudry… and to be without an opinion makes one very dull and a mere sheep in the flock… and as you’ve come to know me, I’m not shy of opinion either.

In a position as National Team Ambassador, in a foreign country, one has to be careful! Snorrie even more so because of what he has said in the past, surely his media people must have warned him that they’ll gun for stupid reaction and answers… because of what has transpired in the past.

Hy kan net nie sy bek hou nie… and that to me is a sign of someone with very limited intellectual capacity or ability.

    @ grootblousmile:
I made another comment on the same thread about this. I know its premature, but I have already formed an opinion of the man win or lose the world cup.
Griekeland gaan uitgeskop word….watch this space.

    GBS…..Not the same thread…the earlier thread…sorry.

    10 @ 4man:
Sorry, my attention has been devided… have just returned from hospital, my Handbriekie was taken up today, she’s on drips and shit…. severe tummy bug, which has led to bad dehidration.

    12 @ superBul:

  • 19

    17 @ superBul:

  • 22

Superbul….don’t rad me wrong….I say what I think and what I like. I just happen to like the Haka, I quite enjoy the basis behind it….we always complain that we are losing a lot of tradition in rugby…so long may it last.

GBS gee groete aan Handbriekie ek is seker alles sal gou regkom. Dis moers ernstig as n mens n drip moet kry. Lekker aand vir julle.
