Ireland forwards and ex Springbok forwards coach, Gert Smal, is on the verge on signing Bok front row legend and former Bok scrum coach, Os Du Randt to coach the Irish scrum for the World Cup.

Du Randt who was shafted by Pieter De Viliers earlier this year has confirmed that he is in the final stages of negotiating with the Irish RFU to be their permanent scrum coach.

Du Randt, who was fired by De Villiers for a late night drinking session [even though other coaching staff and players who were as guilty as him were let off] had this to say:

“I ‘d arranged my life around coaching full-time, renting my farm out and so on. After Saru dropped me, I’ve had to look at other possibilities. I’ve asked myself, why not [sign with Ireland permanently]? I can learn so much from their other coaches, the way they conduct themselves at scrum-time, to see how they think and what their philosophies are.”

Moenie worrie nie, Snor has Gary Gold to fix the Boks scrum!

The Boks could meet the Micks in the QF in Wellington.

Dit is Os Du Randt, nie ‘Rant’ nie.

    We don’t need OS.
We have the world’s greatest rugby brain in PDV followed closely by Gary.
As we speak they are busy studying a book called, “Winning at international rugby” published in 1965.

    @ Ashley:
    Hey big Ash!!
You forgot the K in darkness, but I will still come to talk to you again!!
Now listen up my pal, SBW can tackle!!
He is making fools out of every defence, and he is still learning the game.
Imagine what he will do when he get’s some experience and confidence!!
Probably take an offer for mega bucks to go back up north!!

    anyway
with all indications that we may meet ireland in the quarter finals? ..
this seem to be a very good move from them!!

i know what i saw, tighthead
    and
    as i’ve said repeatedly,
    1. OF COURSE he can tackle and
    2. he dont miss a lot of tackles that he attempt
    but
i honestly believe that this is a part of the game that could be tested. apply the blow torch and see what happens.

lets put it like this (and i have repeated this quite a few times in the last few days) .. sbw, when tackling, more often than not go backwards
thus the ball carrier is almost always certain of go-forward ball in the area ..
    now
if we (sa teams) keep on playing like we normally do, that is if the ball carrier go off his feet, ruck forms, we wait for our forwards so they can take up the next phase ..
then i agree with you … then sbw DONT HAVE A PROBLEM AT ALL
    ..
    but
what should happen if we do attack his channel, but have eg. a support runner running off the shoulder of the ball carrier?
doesnt it then start causing problems for him and his team’s defence?
    ..
    anyway
i have to admit … i’ve watched the game on sunday morning again,
and its quite difficult to see the “weakness” i keep hammering on
    but
watching him at newlands on saturday, following him, see what he do, how he reacts etc etc just suggest that he’s not as confident in that area as he should be!!
    ..
ok, to use another example ..when jonah burst onto the scene everyone wondered how we could stop this guy … it seemed like nothing anyone have tried before worked … so we TRIED cutting down his space, preventing him from building up speed and gang banging ..uhm .. i mean tackling him … AND IT WORKED!! there wasnt a ready made formula for stopping jonah, but we found one and managed to stop him. later on people started kicking behind him because someone THOUGHT that he may be vulnerable there, AND HE WAS!!
now dont try to tell me that sbw is the exception to this rule … every single player who ever played this magnificent game of ours had weaknesses … so does sbw!!

    ok, tightie
    got this for you
    its called SBW’s BIG HITS
(the quality unfortunately is not very good!!)

    @ Ashley:
WE cannot compare Jonah to SBW.
Jonah was all power, strength and size.
SBW is the above plus the best ball handling skills in the world.
What you are describing in attacking his channell is SBW rugby!!
So you have yourself described how he has changed the game without even wanting to!!
SBW is the best rugby player the world has seen and he compares to nobody.

OK i wont argue that, luckily he also have only 2 legs, not like the guy who loved “hoender boudtjies” so much he bred a chicken with 3 legs, when asked how it tastes he said he does not know because the chicken is so fast now, he can not catch it……..
