Crusaders Israel Dagg, Adam Whitelock and Sean Maitland are not expected to play any further part in this year’s Super Rugby season due to injury.

The Crusaders sent four players home from South Africa who have now been examined and treated by medical staff in Christchurch

The four were injured in the Super Rugby match between the Crusaders and Stormers in Cape Town on May 7 and returned last week.

Fullback Israel Dagg ruptured a tendon in his right thigh (rectus femoris) and had surgery yesterday.

Centre/wing Adam Whitelock ruptured his right pectoral muscle (pectoralis major) and he also had surgery yesterday.

Wing Sean Maitland has a joint injury in his left foot and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow (Wednesday).

A time-frame for a return for this trio depends on how the injuries respond to surgery and rehabilitation but they are likely to be out of the game for two to five months.

A more definite time frames will be known over the next few days.

Halfback Kahn Fotuali’i has a medial ligament sprain in his right knee and is expected to be unavailable for four to six weeks.

The Super Rugby final is on July the 9th which is eight weeks away.

Meanwhile, halfback Andy Ellis (thumb), lock Brad Thorn (calf) and lock Sam Whitelock (ankle) are progressing well in their recovery from injuries.

Ellis and Thorn were injured in the match against the Highlanders in Nelson on April 23 and Whitelock sprained his ankle in the match against the Sharks at Twickenham on March 25.

Heavy blow for the Crusaders… Dagg and Maitland have been in awesome form!

All these injuries look serious. Wish them all well. Did you see how good was Carter after the long lay off and even McCaw. These players dont come back like in our days to get “Match Fit” they are, the moment they ran on.

GBS did you watch the rugby program on Kyknet last night?
Your Fav. Coach was there in his own TAAL. He talks just as much sense as does HM, FL , Naka and certainly more than Mitchell and Plumtree.

He said that SANZAR made them all sign a agreement to play their best teams in the 3Nations, that is a few weeks before the main event the WC.

He did not elaborate on it last night but that is a tricky thing. You can not play your top team in all 4 that Tests and hope to be in peak form at the WC.

Callers on the program and Kobus and Breytie are all getting behind Peter, a few weeks ago everyone wanted the old stalwarts to be dropped. Now they can start seeing that the high riding stars whithering and the old war horses getting into form. Peters head is screwed on right , he shows great loyalty and i can see a calmness in his approach.

A lot will be said and done and yes he speaks whatever he wants but mostly out of his heart.

I enjoyed his view on Ricky Januarie.

He was peppered at least 3 times about Ricky.
Things he said will surprise a few.

“Ricky is fat, hy is 5 kilogram oorgewig, was said.
He said that the 51 players at the session was told what is expected from them, Rickie must slim down and there was a time line given to him when he will be judged.
The players were told what he is looking for in the next few weeks, a lot of attention must be given on their defense. He said the games are played at night in wet NZ conditions and that defense more than running will win this World Cup.

The more i listen to him the more i lose respect for Rugby Journalists. They are like wh*res, following the popular trends instead of giving us the facts. The NZ bright shining star is fading a bit. Well i think so and i really hope so for SA,s sake. McCaw looked good, but are not immune to refs anymore, SBW , the Cheetahs kept him busy more than the other way. With this unfortunate injury lists , esp. Dagg,s the front runners are dragged back a bit.

Off course i might be dreaming…..

The more I think I know about rugby, the more convinced I am that I know nothing. As soon as I am convinced that we are playing out dated rugby and aren’t very clinical at the execution of that, some team somewhere proves me wrong.

Then when I think the Crusaders are going to run circles around the Cheetahs as they have done vs the other SA franchises, the Cheetahs show that even though the Crusaders did run around them at times, they still managed to beat them.

There for I am going to supply a few truths here.

    1. Old style , new style, doesn’t matter as long as you vary play.
    2. The New zealand teams need 65% possession to win a game, but even then it may still not happen.
    3. Commitment in defence is what it is all about.
    4. SBW is not awesome, even Elton Jantjies can flip an offload.
