Crusaders and All Black number eight Kieran Read has been named the Kelvin R. Tremain Memorial rugby player of the year.

Read beat his Crusaders and All Blacks team mates – this year’s IRB Player of the Year, Richie McCaw, and dual international Brad Thorn.

Read played at a consistently high standard in all levels of the game this year and was a rock at the back of the scrum for the Crusaders and All Blacks, while also handling the Crusaders’ captaincy duties for the early part of the Super Rugby season.

Read had also been a finalist for the Super 14 Player of the Year award, which went to Blues and All Blacks halfback Alby Mathewson.

Brad Thorne a dual international? Who else did he play for?

    This guy deserves his accolade
The 3N countries did pick well this year. I agree with all 3
    Gurthro Steenkamp – SA
    Kieran Read – NZ
    David Pocock – Australia

    Evening All.

Just spoke to GBS. He asked that I let all know that he and Bonzia GBS bagged a Blesbok each today.

Both were clean shots, and GBS is appropriately chuffed.

Anyone wayching Racing Metro v Saracens, vlok but we have it easy here in SA. Also, it’s a crying shame how many Saffas play overseas. There must be 10 in this game alone. Pound and Euro se moer.
