In a late development Western Province have called back Springbok flanker Hilton Lobberts from the Boland Kavaliers for their Absa Currie Cup rugby match against the Blue Bulls at Newlands on Saturday.
The ex Blue Bulls player was on loan to the Boland and was picked at the side of the scrum when the team was released on Wednesday, although he has played lock for WP .
Province have now decided to call him back due to what they have described as “lock problems”. It is still not clear wether he will play.
Lobberts’ place will be taken by Carel Hoffman, who was Boland’s best player in their 50-16 defeat against the Leopards last weekend.
Tiaan Liebenberg is also injured and might be out for the next two games. This will make Saturday more of a contest as the the Bulls are missing the experience and quality their Springboks bring to the table. WP have beaten the Sharks and Lions in their last two matches. On current from and with home advantage, WP are still the favourite to put one over their Northern rivals.

Ek het nou gelees. Dis interessant. Ondersteuners gaan altyd daaroor stry om dit te swaai soos dit hulle pas.
Ek glo so: Almal behalwe Bulls, WP, Haaie, Cheetahs en Leeus is feeder unions. Enige speler wat n Bok wil word sal n fout maak om by n klein unie te bly. Hoeveel Bokke het daai unies opgelewer die afgelope paar jaar terwyl die speler daar gespeel het? So is bv Tiaan Liebenberg of Kirchner nie vir my “gekoopte” spelers nie want dis vir my die volgende stap in hulle ontikkeling. Soos n speler van 0/19 na 0/21 beweeg, moet n speler van bv. die Valke, OP ens na n groter unie beweeg om ernstig oorweeg te word.
Dan punt 2: Wanneer is n speler regtig “gekoop” by n groot unie. Ek se wanneer hy sy eerste keer provinisaal op CC of s14 vlak gespeel het. So is John Smit nie n Bul nie, al was hy n junior speler by die Bulle, en so is Habana eintlik n Leeu, want hy het sy CC debuut daar gemaak.
Uiteraard is John Smit nou n Haai, want hy word daar betaal en net so gaan Habana n Stormer wees volgende jaar.
Maar as iemand my vra is Habana eintlik n Leeu, Bul of Stormer, sal ek nie kan claim hy is eintlik n Bul nie. Hy is n oorspronklike Leeu. Net so met JS, ek kan nie claim hy is n Bul nie, want hy is n oorspronklike Shark in my oe.

3 rugby fans – a Springbok fan, a New Zealand fan and an Australian
fan were all walking home after watching a game at the pub.
They come across a dead, naked woman lying on the pavement, and decide
to phone the police.
The Springbok fan could not bear to see the undignified woman lying on
the floor in such a manner, and took off his Springbok cap and placed
it over the woman’s left breast. Not to be outdone the New Zealand
fan, removed his cap and placed it over the woman’s right breast.
Similarly, the Australian fan felt he could be of assistance and
removed his cap and placed it over her groin area.
Now, when the police arrived, the 3 Rugby fans had to stick around for
questioning by the police.
They watched the officer inspect the scene of the crime.
The officer picked up the cap from the left breast, had a peek, put
the cap down and then wrote down some notes. He then picked up the cap
from the right breast, had a peek, put the cap down and wrote down
some notes. Next, of course, was the cap over the groin area. The
officer picked up the cap, put it down and then wrote some notes. He
picked up the cap again, put it down and wrote some further notes. For
the third time, the officer did the same thing which infuriated the
hell out of the Australian fan to the point where he went up to the
officer.
“What are you? Some kind of pervert? Why do you keep looking there?”
asked the obviously annoyed Aussie fan.
The officer replied “It’s just weird – normally, you’d expect to see a
prick under an Australian cap!”
