The Cheetahs scraped a home win with time up when Marius Jonker awarded a Penalty Try to them. Final score 33 / 31

Both Western Province and the Cheetahs combined solid forward play with scintillating running rugby to produce arguably the best CC game of the season.

At half time WP already had a bonus point in the bag courtesy of 4 beautifully constructed tries.

Peter Grant had his best game of the season, asking questions of the defense and injecting pace into an obliging backline where Juan de Jong, Tonderai Chavanga, Frikkie Welsh and Joe Pietersen running at pace and with intent. The WP defense leaked a few tries, and this has to of concern for the coaching staff.

The contest at scrum time was even, with WP shading it in the first half, and the Cheetahs coming back strongly in the second period.

Both teams were quite willing to run the ball, and the forwards did not stand back from the searing heat up front.

The Cheetahs came from behind with guts and spirit and can take heart from this performance going forward. They were ably assisted by referee Marius Jonker, who did not match the quality of play that the players of both teams dished up.

The match was won in the last seconds courtesy of a string of penalties, a dubious yellow card to man of the match Francois Louw, and a penalty try.

Well done to both teams for a quality and entertaining game of rugby after the excitement of the Boks winning the Tri Nations this morning
