I am, to say the least, absolutely PISSED OFF this morning!!! I watched the News last night and saw that at club level there were deliberate racial ‘attacks’ on the rugby field, at first when it was mentioned in the headlines I thought, “it is just another ploy to make rugby look bad”, but to my dismay it was shown that people go onto the field with “weapons”!!
Now here is my full view on this, SARU says that they need to tackle this problem head on and stop this. Up until now SARU has launched the “No to Racism” campaign at a provincial level, if this is how you are going to tackle this problem head on, then I am afraid you may as well put a baby in front of a rampant steam roller hoping it will stop the machine!!! The only way we are going to deal with this problem is to take full action against both players and clubs that are involved.
Let me first get this this off my chest, this racism is not only between black and white or coloured and white or coloured on black, it is all the groups against all the groups. To you racists playing rugby I say shame on you and innanity!!! It is you that is putting this sport in direpute and then it is you who is first to complain when government gets involved and says that rugby is a racist sport and needs to be changed. If you go onto to the field with the intend to do serious bodily harm to a fellow rugby player you should be banned from the game and I mean from anything got to do with the game, as in you are not allowed in a rugby stadium in this country! Your club should be scrapped and fined to the point that it has no choice but to close! YOU MAKE THIS SPORT LOOK LIKE A RACIST SPORT AND YOU SHOULD BE PUNISHED!!!! AND ONLY THE HARSHEST PUNISHMENT WILL WORK!!! You must now be punished by law for assault with intend to grevious bodily harm!! You must go where you belong… to prison or piss off out of this country and try your shit somewhere else!!!
I am sick and tired of racism being played in this country and it needs to stop with aggreesive action NOW!!!
Please stop your crap and play the beautiful game, the ring is at Monte Casino, take your shit out there, not on our field!!

This is unfortunately a good indication of the world in general and more specific of the problems facing South Africa in the here and now. We have people with very deep seated hate for anyone not from their own nick of the woods…so to speak.
I would like to think like in most things, it is a small minority making life difficult for the majority and I have not seen anything to the contrary. it does not make it any easier though as many borderline cases and even some moderate people on all sides gets drawn in, making the solution even harder.
All said and done, there is no quick fix and it will take time. Some of the suggestions made by Ed will go a long way in making sure it does not expand, but the deep rooted hate…well, that is another story.
#12 – I’ve played some of the cleanest, best games of my life against coloured clubs. There are a club in Boland called Robertson. They use to be a brawl – every time we play there, and you litterly play in a cage!
But the Allen Williams took over the coaching – and they played clean rugby – and it was fun. They were relegated 2 years ago, but true to their new honest way to play the game – the came back, and is currently the leaders in the Boland Club Competition.
So it is up to the club/players/management – to decide if they want to enjoy the game every Saturday, or want a Brawl (get back at the Boere)/close the stadium gates and throw the Boere with stones.
Robertson made that decision – and look at them!
