‘n Skoolseun moet Saterdag teen die Blou Bulle en vir die res van die seisoen die X-faktor verskaf wat die Leeus nodig het om saam met die grotes in Suid-Afrikaanse rugby te brul.
Nadat Monument Saterdag as Beeldkampioene gekroon is, is die aanduidings dat Taute as losskakel of heelagter vir die Leeus oorweeg sal word.
Herkie Kruger het Saterdag op Nuweland weliswaar 15 punte met die skoen aangeteken, maar is verbeeldingloos in die nommer 10-trui.
Taute sal die eerste skoolseun wees om die Leeus in die Curriebekerreeks te verteenwoordig hoewel nog ‘n oud-Monna Jaque Fourie direk na skool Vodacomrugby vir die Leeus gespeel het.
Die jong Monna is baie veelsydig en kan as heelagter, vleuel, senter op losskakel oorweeg word en kan derhalwe ook ‘n aanwins op die bank vir die naweek wees.
Nog ‘n speler met die X-faktor, die UJ-heelagter Earl Lewis, ka nook oorweeg word.
Hoewel die spelpatroon tans aan die konserwatiewe kant is moet die Leeus spelers soos Lewis en Taute gebruik wat dinge kan laat gebeur.
Te veel van dieselfde gaan maar net weer dieselfde uitslae tot gevolg hê.

7@Supa Die Bloubul – If you look at the Aussies, and their average age – they will become a huge force soon. Guys like O’ Conor and Kurtley Beale are all under 20, with 2 seasons of Super rugby. There a quite a few examples of that.
Regarding Dougue – I have no idea. But guys like him and Mortlock seems like they have been there forever – and then you realise they are only 28.

I hear you. O Conner is doing well, but Beale has proved anything to me yet. We will see, he is still young. Frans Steyn was also young when he made the step up.

Every person was fearing for this “child’s” life. Then there was a shot on him, and he hit the best shot I’ve seen in years, and dropped the lock of England.
He later admitted that never in his career did people take cheapies on him again, but that nobody knows that it was a lucky shot!
14 @Supa Die Bloubul – Agree on Beale. His first season was great, but then he got easy to read.
But the All Blacks have guys like Rene Ranger, Zac Guildford and lots more who is under 20 as well, with 2 season behind them.

I think SA have good youngsters also coming through. I prefer a player coming through slowly or you might break him ala Gaffie and Dave Von Hoesslin. But some just make the step up easy like O conner, Steyn

I Don’t undersand the Lions / GLRU.
2 seasons ago they had Justin Botha (also Monna’s) who only ever wanted to play for the Lions.
Played Craven Week 3 years running, SA scholls when in Std 9. Brilliant flyhalf. GLRU offered him a contract when he was 16 which his father (rightly IMO) refused to sign as he felt Justin was too young. The GLRU then never offered him a contract in matric, so he eventually signed for the Sharks whilst at Craven Week.
He’s now injuered (car accident) but is really enjoying being at the acadamy their.
All he ever wanted to do was play for the Lions, now he won’t even talk to them!
Talk about the GLRU shooting themselves in the foot. (Again)
Now we want to throw a schoolboy to the Bulls so that hardened campaigners (although still young) like Dewald Potgeiter can ruin his rugby life.
Supa – how many of the young guys are still coming from Dromedaris Men’s Res? Currently playing I know is Jean Deysel, Duanne Vermeulen and Heinke v/d Merwe. How many other prospects are out there?

Yes, Jean Deysel (Wolscooter-Sharks), Duanne (Uitslag-WP), Heinke (Beebop-Lions). Also Walter Venter (Karavaan-Lions), Freddie Van Zyl (Straatkat-Lions, Valke), Gert Muller (Eland-Lions), Cobus Grobler (Varkhond-Lions), Willem Van der Wal (Beespan – he was the SA students captain and often captains Pukke), Frikkie Spies (Braaipan – Boland), Johan Van Deventer (Biscuit-Lions). And who Valke players (brothers Perkins – nikcnamed Damvark and Edwill van Aarde)
Thats a few that were there in my time. Other like Jannes Labuschange (Tweety), Pietman Van Niekerk, Barend Pieterse (Peacejob) and Rian Hefer (Stoetbul) were also there.
Supa – Born and bred Drom – B Blok nanana, ons is die bul blok, etc – Been too long though so now I only catch up when I see the younger guys (Bostick, Boetie,Jacpot etc). In my time we had Joe Esterhuisen (Tvl), Jannie vd Walt (Tvl), Kapstok v Greunen (Tvl)(ok slightly before my time), Tiaan Joubert (Tvl,Ntvl), Jannes (Tweetie) to name a few and a huge amount of guys for the smaller unions, have just lost contact a bit. Getting a lot of conflicting reports – some people say rugby still going strong, other says UJ rugby on the way down. Was hoping to hear from you what the truth is?
